On 19 December, 2025, AMS approved a new statement in response to the Trump Administration’s announcement that it will close the National Center for Atmospheric Research. The statement, titled, “The United States of America Needs the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR),” begins as follows:
“Earlier this week, the White House announced plans to dismantle the National Science Foundation’s National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR). Losing this incredible resource would hurt the economic health of the nation and the safety of its people.”
